April 18, 2011

Dear family,

How's it going? This week has been ca-razy. we walked all week. At least 13 miles a day. I have a blister the size of Texas on my right foot.

Anyways. Dawn, Tyler, and Kayla were all Baptized yesterday! WOOHOO!  So Elder Perkins baptized Dawn and Kayla, but Kayla, had to be re-baptized 3 times. Her foot came up the first time, her hand the second, but third time was the charm. It was pretty funny.  Oh, and I had the great opportunity to baptize Tyler. After i brought him up he said "Elder McBride, I'm gonna get you for that."  I tried explaining to him that i was supposed to "dunk" him. He didn't believe me. So I'd better watch my back!

But this week was a lot harder than last week... But it didn't seem like it. I guess I'm finally starting to really Love the work. I mean, this week was miserable. Like i said before we walked everywhere this week. And in the rain too. But it was a blast!  We came in for break on Tuesday just soaked. I mean, shirts, pants, sock, shoes, unmentionables...Everything. But it was fun.

Guess what..... A less active family in the ward let me borrow their guitar for a little while!  It's an old classical acoustic guitar. They said it was broken but all they needed to do with it was tighten a few screws and re-tune it. So because i did that for them, they said i could use it until i either get my own guitar or transfer out of the area!  And i need to learn a few songs for them. Jolean, the wife/mother, wants to hear the hymn "because i have been given much". We see them next Sunday so I'll have to practice =)

Oh, another funny thing. Elder Perkins and I discussed what we're going to be when we're older. I told him his future and he told me mine. So Elder Perkins is going to be a successful business man. Work behind a big desk in a big building with a big window. yeah. Big. He's also going to live in a big house out here in Pennsylvania-Delaware area. Going to be married 7 months after his mission and have 7 kids (5 boys 2 girls). Going to be called as the second counselor in the bishopric. Yeah. that's pretty much it.

And I'm going to be a social worker/ high school counselor. Live in a good sized house. Own a Siberian Husky. Married 11 months after my mission and have 4 kids (3 boys, 1 girl). Going to be a adviser in the priest quorum. have bbq's at my house every two weeks in the summer. Yeah. pretty excited for it.

It was a pretty fun game.

Congrats Dad!  Or should i say "Mr. Busdriver man."  Glad you're excited to get going. So one of the missionary's out here is going home this next week. and his family is taking him on a cruise to Alaska. It would be pretty cool if you ran into him. Elder Griffiths (i'm not sure of his first name).

I emailed Grandma and Grandpa Pulsipher last week and i heard back from them! They're doing really good. I'm sure you've heard but they're out there setting up Addiction recovery program in a lot of areas. They say the work is going good.

Well, Coatesville is calling =)
Love you!

April 11, 2011

Dear Mommy and Family

This week was tough, but it was a lot better than last week. We tracted like crazy though. Hopefully some good will come from it. The funny thing is we tracted only on the days that is was pouring rain.

Out here we have a limit of how many miles we're able to go per month, and we're already half-way through the amount of miles we can go. And we still have 20+ days left  =( so that means lots of walking. Which is good.

Elder Perkins and I have gone on a "Fiber and Protein" diet. And we've gotten some crazy awesome results. I've lost 10 lbs! and we've only been doing it for a week and a half! So dad better get on it if he wants to beat me. But i better be careful. We have quite a few dinners with members scheduled so I'll have to watch what i eat. Whoever said you lose weight on a mission, went to Africa.

So Dawn... Dawn, dawn dawn.. She's getting baptized this Sunday! Tyler and Kayla will have to wait though. We talked with the ward Bishop and he thinks that they aren't "ready" yet. So Elder Perkins and I are going to work extra hard with them. It was really cool, Tyler came up to me in church yesterday and asked if I would baptize him. I was shocked that he'd ask me because I've only been around for 4 weeks. But I'm ecstatic. I'll have to get a picture with the family so i can send it to you. Speaking of, i should probably unpack my camera =P  I don't think I've taken one picture yet. I'll start taking them like crazy, i promise.

The music thing. President looked at my Ipod and i played a few of the "questionable" songs for him and he said that they were fine. He actually really enjoyed "getting into you" so much that he asked me to play it for him a few times. He also said, "Elder McBride, You get that guitar sent out here soon! I want you to teach me how to play that song." we got a pretty good laugh out of that one. He also really liked a few of the Liken songs. But yeah. I can't think of anything besides the Cd's. But please, Send it to the mission  home. Elder Perkins had his family send out a GPS to our new address and... well.. it wasn't in the mailbox. We were in a pretty big panic. but we talked with the Post Master and he said they were holding onto the package. It's not safe to send packages to the missionary's addresses just because they've had a problem with things being stolen. And I prefer Chords over Tabs, But I'll take whatever you send =).  (maybe when I'm no longer a "greeny", you could possibly consider sending out a GPS for me... but it's completely up to you)

    J'Nell, Maddy, Conner.
WHAT IS UP MI SIBLINGOS!!
Why don't you guys E-mail me? I'm kidding =)  How's school going?  You all better be getting Straight A's!!!  If not i might have to come home and smack you over the head =P  You guys are on your best behavior... right?  So J'Nell, The elder's in my district have all agreed that you don't look 15 going on 16. You look 18 ish. So there ya go. Mozeltoff. You know what... I'm really weird. Not how i was at home but just weird.  But being weird is the only way we can stay sane out in the field.

hahaha. Elder Perkins and I have been walking around Coatesville talking in British accents. It's funny how many people actually pay attention to us now. But i'd better be careful, i might come home with a british accent.

But yeah. Hope all is going well! And thank you for your prayers. I need them =)

"And now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men. Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, See that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind, and strength that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day. Therefore if ye have desire to serve God, Ye are qualified to the work. For behold, the field is white, already to harvest. And Lo, he that thrusteth his sickle with all his might the same layeth up in store that he perisheth not, but bringeth salvation unto his soul. And Faith, Hope, Charity, and love, with an eye single to the Glory of God, qualify him to the work. Remember faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, obedience, brotherly kindness, godliness, charity, humility and diligence. Ask and ye shall recieve, knock and it shall be opened up unto you. Amen."  - D&C 4: 1-7 (i think)

Love you!
