McBride's!!!

How the heck are you?  I'm doing great!  My first companion out here is Elder Perkins. He's lived all over the U.S. but calls Bountiful, Utah home. He's a lot like Elder Watts, fun loving, goofball of a guy. He's also obsessed with Basketball, so this time of year is killing him with march madness.  But he's staying focused. He's a great trainer. Only been out 7 months.

Ah Coatesville. It's the ghetto of the ghetto's. We're about 20, 30 miles outside of philly. It's really funny. We're the only 2 white people out here.... i think. Huge culture shock. everyone smokes. everyone swears, everyone's black or latino. But i LOVE IT!!! During the day people are really nice. But you want to be sure to be in on time. you never know what could happen. We live in the heart of Coatesville. 6th ave, Belmont street. Just across the street is Harmony street which is basically Pennsylvania's "Camden street". Everything happens there.

To answer a few of your questions:

I got my comforter

My companion is THE BEST EVER! He's so funny. Always making sure i'm having a good time.

We have a car. Toyota Corolla

Our living quarters..... not great but could be worse. 1 bath, kitchen, living room and bedroom. it's small but i like it. our neighbors are pretty bad. they smoke and are always yelling. i'm glad we only eat and sleep there.

I love President and Sister Schafermyer!  I couldn't ask for anyone better. They're so supportive and really nice. President Schafermyer pulled me aside the first night and said, "Elder McBride. We're so glad to have you here. I can tell by just looking at you, you're gonna be a hard worker. I'm going to send you to one of our tougher areas. Good luck and Godspeed Elder."

I got lucky. This is a tough area but the members are supportive and the people are usually nice.

Our area is pretty "dry". We haven't had a baptism for a few months they said. but we do have a few potentials. My favorite investigator has got to be a woman named Dawn.  Dawn is a hard-working mother of 5. knows the church is true but can't be baptized because she lives with her deadbeat boyfriend. She can't leave him because she's not able to work and he supports the family, but he won't marry her because she "cheated" on him a few years ago.  But we're hoping she's baptized this transfer.

We have also been teaching an awesome part-member family, the Walcotts. Jenny and Matt with two boys (ages 4 and 2). Jenny is a member, but she was less active for a while. Matt calls himself a "mormon-catholic". he knows the church is true but doesn't see a need for baptism. We're hoping he realizes how important it is when he sees Jenny enjoying church.

We have a few more investigators. but Those two families are my favorite.

Holy cow. My one month "anniversary" is coming up. March 27 baby!! I can't believe it's already been a month. It feels like only a week.. not even a week.

Ah. Church yesterday was awesome!  Bishop Heimmis (or something like that) is really cool. Got up in sacrament meeting and said, "we've got some new blood brothers and sisters, let's try not to scare this one off." everyone was laughing. He then had me stand up and introduce myself. I got a warm welcome to the ward. (couple of dinner appointments. YES!!!)  Awesome ward.

Well, I love you. Remember, The church is true. Oh, good luck dad! you'll do awesome!  And J'nell, don't sweat it. school's not that important anyways. I'm kidding i'm kidding.  If you have any letters or anything to send me, send it to the mission home because i'll be moving sometime next week.   Love you and Godspeed!

I'm soooooooo sorry i didn't call on Tuesday. Tuesday was so crazy. we got to the airport late so we barely made it through security and onto the plane in time. The flight landed late in Detroit so we only had 20 minutes till takeoff. No one in my flight group was able to call home. But i'm alive and safe in Coatesville PA. a little rinky dink ghetto town. But the People are AMAZING!! I love them! anyways I gotta go

P-day is monday so you'll get another e-mail then

ps. The mission president gave the all clear with the guitar!

Love you all

HELLO FAMILY!!!!

The MTC is an amazing place! I love every minute of it.

Elder Watts is from the Anehiem area. so yeah.  with my mission scripture i looked up mission in the TG and found the Isaiah reference and loved it. I went through 4 or 5 other ones before but none of them felt right. after i read the Isaiah scripture, i got a feeling that it was the one.

Thank you soooooo much for the packages. The other elders in my district have all enjoyed the treats and the games. But, they are pretty jealous because i've gotten 4 packages now and some of them haven't gotten one. They don't really take in account that i live 20 minutes away and they all live a couple days away. Sister and Brother Chamberlain sent me a package today, and man. They sent some great tasting cookies. They also included a card that says how proud they are of my decision and that Jake is excited for me. Be sure to thank them the next time you see them. (i'll write them and thank them as well)

To j'nell, conner, and maddie
How's school going? Straight A's right? haha.  J'nell, all the elders in my district say hi. I'll have to send a picture of us all.  Thank you all for the letters! and j'nell, i dont miss you either =P I'm kidding. I miss you all tons.

I can't believe i've been here two weeks.... it feels like two days. But i leave next tuesday at 4 IN THE MORNING. not looking forward to that. I've learned so much while i've been here. Brother Tyler (the second counselor in my branch presidency) is a master scriptorian. He has a scripture for everything. I've learned so much from him.

wow... Elder arnett, elder phelps, and elder carraway pulled a prank on us this morning. They had hidden elder Arnetts alarm clock on our room and set it to go off at 4:30 in the morning. I was sooooo mad. So were my roommates. We're gonna get them back. soon.

So sunday night, Elder Watts got really sick. So sick in fact that we took him to the hospital. Turns out he got some kind of stomach virus from the food. We didn't get back to the MTC till 1 am. poor guy. he's still feeling pretty sick but at least he's cracking jokes. I finally got over feeling sick. yay.

So i've been studying in psalms lately and i came across the psalm where david says "yea though i walk through the valley of death, i will fear no evil, for though art with me, thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me." when i read that i couldn't help but breaking out into song from that Liken movie. The elders thought i was crazy. but they enjoyed the song.

Crap. one minute left.... I love you all and miss you... kinda.   May the Lord bless you with his spirit. and God be with you till we meet again!

Love, Elder McBride

March 02, 2011

HEY EVERYONE!!! The mtc is an amazing place and i'm loving it. My companion's name is Elder Watts from southern california. We have a very similar personality so it made it easy to get along.

you know how everyone says the MTC food is the best? Well, they were lying. It's good but it's not great. I feel like a ticking time bomb ready to explode. Not a pleasant feeling.  But. I do love the feeling of having the spirit present at every minute. in class, the cafeteria, in the bedrooms, or just walking down the hall. Everywhere.

My branch president's name is President Robinson. Apperantly we're distantly related. His second great grandfather crossed the plains with the handcart company. His realative's last name is McBride. Guess i'll have to look into it some more.

The elders in my district are.... Elder Watts, Elder Carraway from south jordan, Elder Phelps we went to school together, Elder Blades from D.C., Elder Noble from pheonix arizona, and Elder Arnett from Houston Texas. All really amazing guys.

Wow. only one week but it feels like forever. i think that's because the schedule is so repetative.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT CARE PACKAGE!!!!! It really lifted my spirits. We went "bowling" for a good hour as a district.

My 1/2 hour is almost up. Love you all and remember, God loves you very much!

 Your missionary,
Elder McBride
